Playing with the Microbits

Learning Intention: To learn how to code with simple blocks and to transfer the code from the Chromebook to the Microbit.

First of all, we coded the microbit to show a flashing heart.

We put two show led blocks inside a forever block. The microbit shows the leds that are lit on the block. They will flash between one block and the other forever as both blocks are inside a forever block.

We then coded the buttons on the microbit to do different actions according to which button has been pressed.

When we use the blocks for coding the buttons, they have a drop down to choose which button. This is called a variable.

Learning Intention

To code the robot to move backwards without touching it - to be a Jedi

My robot will wait until I have pressed the onboard button before it does anything.

We used an "IF - THEN - ELSE" block, as this gives the robot two choices of things to do.

We are using the ULTRASONIC SENSOR on the front of the robot and we need to sense if something is 10cm in front of it..

IF something is 10cm or LESS in front of the robot, it will move backwards.

IF something is NOT less than 10 cm in front of the robot, it will move forwards (ELSE).

This is all put into a forever block so that the robot constantly senses what is in front of it.

Using workplanes in Tinkercad

I have made a presentation showing the steps needed to use workplanes in Tinkercad.




The challenge was then to put our initials on the sides of a cube.

Who am I?

I made the Me using Google Drawings.
I searched for images that had a transparent background so that I could make a collage.

Concept Ideas

These are my 5 specification points :-

• It has to be waterproof
• It to have a hook to hang it up
• It must not have too many buttons so it is easy to use in the car.
• It must be medium sized so that it can produce a good amount of sound but not be too big to move around
• It must be a shape that will not roll around in the car if it is not hung up

These are my 3 concept ideas.

Labelling and Identifying Parts of Existing Products

We looked at products like we are are going to design. The labels on the pictures are identifying different parts of the products.
This is the UNISTRUCTURAL level of SOLO.

We chose which product that we are going to design and produced a timeline that shows how that product has changed over time.
